A New Program at The Festival Center

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The three-week training courses will cover an introduction to a kitchen environment, basic utensils and appliances. Trainees, who will be referred into the program through Jubilee Jobs, will learn basic knife skills, following and improving recipes, time management, nutrition, hygiene, and overall familiarity with work in the food business. The trainees will also receive a wide range of exposure to the economic and entrepreneurial possibilities through food. Hands-on internships and work opportunities will be provided by both The Festival Center and The Potter's House as part of the course curriculum.  Program graduates who complete the training will be better prepared with new job skills, and hopefully will be more easily or quickly placed by Jubilee Jobs into entry level restaurant or other food service positions.

We have done special fundraising for the start-up costs for Festival Foods, and we are very grateful to everyone who contributed funds for the launch of the first training cycle.  There is still the need for basic kitchen supplies, such as wooden spoons, spatulas, whisks, pots, pans, skillets, and small appliances (see list of needed items on reverse side).  If you have these kinds of extra items in the back of your cabinets, we will put them them to very good use! Please contact Elizabeth at 202.328.0072 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
